María Contreras (María Maluenda), una joven de Los Andes, gana un concurso que le permite viajar a Estados Unidos. Abandona a su novio Andrés (Pedro de la Barra), un joven médico que se opone a la aventura y se traslada a Hollywood, donde toma contacto con Herbert Polish (Ricardo Moller), un director extravagante que está finalizando una película protagonizada por Constance White. Ésta muere en un accidente automovilístico y María debe terminar en secreto el rodaje de la película
